Mary Cordes
F, #34, (c 1802 - )
Father-Pos | John Cordes (c 1775 - 1850) |
Mother-Pos | Elizabeth Coxsey (c 1777 - 1829) |
Mary Cordes may be the same person as Mary Ann Hepworth born c. 1802, found by searching Ancestry for "Mary Hepworth". However, the notion that Mary Cordes, listed as a daughter of John Cordes in a family note, married a Hepworth may be a mistaken interpretation. I now [Mar. 28/09] think it more likely that Mary married at Hepworth, probably the Hepworth in Yorkshire. The remainder of the entry on Mary in the family note is consistent with identifying Mary as Ann, the daughter who married (1) Peter Slinn and (2) Joseph Lockhart.
The whole situation is further confused by my current belief [as of March 2009] that Rebecca is quite likely a hitherto unsuspected daughter of John and Elizabeth; there is no mention at all of Rebecca in the family note.

- Sophia Kate Cordes (1852 - 1855)
- Lucy Kate Cordes+ (1856 - 1903)
Sophia Millard may be the daughter of Dorcas Millard. There are a number of factors which at least indicate her very close involvement with the family of John and Dorcas (Millard) Chalkley.
1. Sophia is reported to be 'formerly Chalkley' on the birth certificates of at least two of her children.
2. Two of the witnesses at the marriage of Sophia and Henry Cordes in 1845 were Isaac Chalkley and Mary Ann Chalkley.
3. Hannah Chalkley was present at the death of Sophia herself, and also at the death of Sophia and Henry's daughter Sophia Kate Cordes.
4. John Chalkley (the younger) was present as a visitor in the next household to Sophia and Henry in the 1851 Census.
